ABSTRACT

Sanrentang, originally contained in the Regulations on Febrile Diseases written by WU Ju-tong in the Qing dynasty, was composed of eight traditional Chinese herbs to treat damp-warm diseases. It is a treatment method of gradually clearing away damp heat of tri-jiao,with characteristics of separating dispersion and mobilizing discharge. "Separating dispersion" means dispersion in separated ways, with different ways to eliminate dampness to export the dampness, heat, evil and turbid out of the body. "Mobilizing discharge" means discharge to stretch and unblock the Qi,to get rid of dampness and evil. It can be seen,Sanrentang,as a desiccating formula, taking "separating dispersion and mobilizing discharge" as the cubic basis, has a significant effect on both internal and external dampness associated with pathogenic heat syndrome, and its clinical application is quite extensive. After consulting the data of the past 10 years, the authors gave a brief overview on the syndrome theory, clinical application and pharmacological effects of Sanrentang, and elaborated the therapeutic effect and pharmacological effect of Sanrentang in the clinical application of upper, middle and lower Tri-jiao respectively, providing theoretical reference for effective development and utilization of Sanrentang. Coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19)swept the world in early 2020 and it is a great challenge for the medical community to seek for effective prevention and treatment methods. For COVID-19,although the cause of the disease belongs to the Qi of "pestilence",many doctors have different opinions on the pathogenic characteristics. However, they all agree with the clinical characteristics of "dampness". COVID-19,which has the attribute of "dampness evil",is so sticky that it can't be cured at once. In addition to the main symptoms such as fever and cough,it is also characterized by the middle-jiao dampness symptoms such as poor appetite, fullness of abdomen, loose stool and diarrhea. It is worthy to further explore the application prospect of Sanrentang in COVID-19 prevention and treatment.Copyright © 2021, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Institute of Chinese Materia Medica. ABSTRACT

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, there is a strong demand for pharyngeal swab sampling and nucleic acid testing. Research has shown that the positive rate of nasopharyngeal swabs is higher than that of oropharyngeal swabs. However, because of the high complexity and visual obscuring of the interior nasal cavity, it is impossible to obtain the sampling path information directly from the conventional imaging principle. Through the combination of anatomical geometry and spatial visual features, in this paper, we present a new approach to generate nasopharyngeal swabs sampling path. Firstly, this paper adopts an RGB-D camera to identify and locate the subject's facial landmarks. Secondly, the mid-sagittal plane of the subject's head is fitted according to these landmarks. At last, the path of the nasopharyngeal swab movement in the nasal cavity is determined by anatomical geometry features of the nose. In order to verify the validity of the method, the location accuracy of the facial landmarks and the fitting accuracy of mid-sagittal plane of the head are verified. Experiments demonstrate that this method provides a feasible solution with high efficiency, safety and accuracy. Besides, it can solve the problem that the nasopharyngeal robot cannot generate path based on traditional imaging principles. It also provides a key method for automatic and intelligent sampling of nasopharyngeal swabs, and it is of great clinical value to reduce the risk of cross-infection. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Confronting the global spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), simple, fast and specific non-laboratory SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests are urgently required. However, the current nucleic acid assays generally rely on the diagnostic laboratory, trained staff and specialized equipment for execution and analysis, presenting clear limitations in the field detection. Here, we describe a portable and reliable immobilization-based loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) device which is mobile, without the requirement of any complicated instrument and appropriate for high-throughput testing. This device was constructed by utilizing the interaction between a carboxyl-tagged primer and an amino-tagged substrate, and capable of catching the target sequence in SARS-CoV-2 produced via the immobilization-based LAMP. In this study, the immobilization conditions and immobilized primer structure were explored and optimized. With this proposed device, the analysis result can be obtained rapidly in 30 min with excellent specificity, even if the template is extracted from a complex sample containing pharyngeal swab or human blood. In addition, the device can be applied to detect the nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-2 and various other pathogens, showing attractive potential for rapid and high-throughput detection at airports, railway stations, cold-chain transportations, community hospitals and so on. Therefore, we believe that the immobilization-based LAMP device is an advanced approach to developing a portable, specific, low-cost and high-throughput diagnostic platform.
